As most of you know when you visit Blossom, I often stress about the importance of wearing sunscreen, not just on holidays but every day. Also, not just on days when the sun is shining but on overcast days as you can still be exposed to harmful rays.

Lots of treatments I offer require you to wear a high-factor sunscreen post-treatment, this is imperative as your skin will be sensitive and at an increased risk of burning if exposed to harmful rays.

Wearing sunscreen every day is essential for maintaining healthy skin and protecting it from the harmful effects of the sun. Here are some reasons why you should make sunscreen a part of your daily skincare routine.

  • Sunburn prevention – Sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer, even on cloudy days you can get sunburnt, so it’s crucial to protect your skin regardless of the weather.
  • Skin cancer risk reduction – Consistent use of sunscreen helps reduce the risk of skin cancer, UV radiation from the sun damages skin cells and can lead to skin cancer over time.
  • Early skin aging prevention – Sun exposure accelerates skin aging, wearing sunscreen daily can help prevent premature wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots caused by UV radiation.
  • Photoaging protection – Sunscreen Shields your skin from photoaging, which includes wrinkles sagging, and uneven pigmentation due to sun exposure.
  • Cellular DNA damage prevention – UV rays can harm your skin’s DNA leading to mutations and potential skin problems, sunscreen helps protect against this damage.
  • Hyperpigmentation control – Sunscreen can prevent or minimise hyperpigmentation (dark spots) caused by sun exposure.

Remember to choose a sunscreen with –

  • SPF 30 or higher to protect against UV B radiation.
  • At least four-star UVA protection indicated by the star rating on UK sunscreens.
  • Broad spectrum coverage protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • There are some fantastic tans that come in a bottle now, they are the safest tans there are!
